It seems there won’t be calming waves in the near future as Africans stick to projecting their personality and creativity into the world’s spotlight.

The world of fashion hosted the Nigerian renowned author and speaker, Chimamanda Ngozi- Adichie as she featured as a cast member in Dior’s The Lady 95.22 debuted at the fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2022-2023 habiliments show on January 12, 2023.

She says in the campaign video:

‘one of the mottos I live by is, never admire quietly, if I admire something about somebody I think it’s important to tell them…it’s important to give people their flowers while they’re here’

Dior is a French luxury fashion company founded in 1946 by French fashion designer Christian Dior and currently headed by Pietro Beccari.

While Chimamanda Adichie stuns the fashion scene, Dennis Osadebe writes creativity on the sand of time in an unprecedented way.

Dennis Osadebe’s collaboration with Hermés is the first of its kind for the artist.

Since its founding in 1837, Hermès has been a leading name in luxury fashion. It focuses on habiliments, jewellery, timepieces, ready-to-wear,  accessories, homewares, and leather products.

The product of the collaboration; The Surfing Fan Scarf, as named, is a silk scarf with a visual image of a horse and a fan, depicting ‘equestrian portraiture and personal heritage’. On January 5, 2023, he took to his social media page to announce the collaboration.

Osadebe’s art is influenced by his pop aesthetic and leans toward both classical and contemporary paintings. Osadebe brings paintings to life by drawing on his Nigerian origin and exposure to the culture, seemingly making no distinction between the paintings’ digital and physical forms.

Describing the story, Hermes and Dennis Oasadebe says, “horses can’t surf…and most certainly not that elegantly.”

It is in the spirit and continuance of spotlights being on Africans that Chimamanda Adichie and Dennis Osadebe through the arts, once again represent and make Africa proud.
