Fresh from Funke Akindele Network, Finding Me is a heartwarming blend of self-loss, rediscovery, and a whirlwind of emotions sprinkled with just the right amount of trouble and laughter.

Atinuke has spent years struggling with self-doubt and a lack of self-love, but just when she finally embraces her true self, life throws her a curveball—hidden secrets, past hurts, and unexpected challenges. Yet, amidst the chaos, love finds a way.

With its compelling storytelling and relatable themes, Finding Me takes viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, reminding us that sometimes, the hardest person to find is ourselves. Now streaming on Prime.

Plot

Atinuke Philips, the CEO of Olowo Steels, is a powerhouse in the boardroom but struggles with self-esteem and fashion sense. The daughter of an illiterate billionaire, Tinuke is married to Kolawale Philips—a pompous, failing real estate investor who never misses an opportunity to body-shame her while shamelessly using her as his personal ATM. But Kola’s toxic masculinity extends beyond insults—his disturbing bedroom habits leave a chilling mark on the women he encounters.

As Kola’s business crumbles, he pressures Tinuke for money yet again. But this time, she makes a reckless decision—illegally withdrawing ₦500 million from company funds. The fallout is swift: Tinuke is stripped of her CEO title, but surprisingly, she begins to thrive outside the steel empire’s walls.

Encouraged by her best friend, Sarah, to reclaim her confidence, she joins the gym, where she meets Anthony—a struggling entrepreneur drowning in financial burdens. With his entire savings funneled into his girlfriend Didi’s mother’s medical bills, Anthony is desperate for a break. When he pitches a business idea to Tinuke, she takes a chance on him. But little does he know, Didi and her family are only using him as their personal piggy bank.

Secrets never stay buried for long. Anthony eventually uncovers the truth about Didi, just as Tinuke’s life spirals deeper into Kola’s manipulative grasp. At the grand opening of Kola’s new real estate venture funded by her unauthorized withdrawal, Tinuke reaches her breaking point. The final straw? Discovering Kola’s infidelity.

In a moment of vulnerability, she finds solace in Anthony. Their business partnership turns personal, leading to a passionate kiss and eventually, a life-changing surprise: a baby. Desperate to hold onto the shambles of her marriage, she pins the child on Kola, unaware that he has a secret of his own.

But Finding Me takes a darker turn when Didi resurfaces, armed with blackmail that threatens both Anthony, Tinuke and even Kola . The stakes rise dangerously, leading to a tragic end—one that leaves Anthony framed for murder.

Cast

As expected from a Funke Akindele production, Finding Me boasts a lineup of well-seasoned actors. In true Funke fashion, every role that needed a recognizable face had one, which comes with both its strengths and weaknesses.

Leading the charge is Funke Akindele herself as Atinuke Philips, delivering an exceptional performance. One of her greatest strengths as an actress is her ability to seamlessly switch between elegance and grit, and she does it effortlessly in this role.

Joseph Benjamin brings intensity to the role of Kola, perfectly capturing his manipulative and toxic persona. Efa Iwara shines as Anthony, adding depth to his character’s struggles and emotions.

The film is further elevated by a strong supporting cast, featuring Omowunmi Dada, Sharon Ooja, Femi Adebayo, Dele Odule, Tina Mba, Shaffy Bello, Omoni Oboli, Abdulgafar Abiola, and Emeka Nwagbaraocha, among many others. Each actor brings their own unique energy to the story, making Finding Me a compelling watch filled with familiar faces delivering powerful performances.

While their performances are commendable, the sheer number of familiar faces makes the film feel overcrowded. The decision to cast popular actors for nearly every role undoubtedly adds star power and boosts the film’s visibility, but it also raises the question—was it necessary for the storytelling, or was it simply for PR? In some moments, the abundance of recognizable faces becomes distracting, making it harder for the story to breathe.

Language

Finding Me is primarily in English but it also weaves in Yoruba and Igbo.

Summary

Finding Me delivers an engaging plot that keeps you entertained, though it occasionally lags. The storyline is well thought out, neither rushed nor poorly written but its pacing could have been more balanced.

The film starts strong, drawing you in with an intriguing premise. However, the middle portion loses momentum, and just when you might begin to doze off, the final act jolts you awake with a whirlwind of revelations. A lot happens in the closing scenes—perhaps too much, making it feel like some of the drama could have been better distributed throughout the film.

One of the movie’s strongest points is its main character, Atinuke. Her character transformation feels natural and believable. Because her only flaw seemed to be her questionable fashion choices, the gradual shift in her confidence and appearance made her journey from an underappreciated woman to finally finding herself, feel authentic.

Visually, Finding Me excels. The costumes, set design, and overall production quality are impressive, perfectly complementing the film’s tone. The star-studded cast also brings life to the story, though at times, the sheer number of familiar faces makes the film feel slightly overcrowded.

Overall, Finding Me is an interesting watch—filled with drama, secrets, and justice served. While it may drag on in parts, it ultimately delivers a satisfying story of self-discovery and transformation.
