Didier Drogba won four Premier League titles with Chelsea. Mohamed Salah helped end Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the championship, while Yaya Touré powered Manchester City’s emergence as a title-winning force.

Their different roles make a straight comparison difficult: Drogba led the line, Salah attacked from the wing, and Touré controlled midfield. Peak form, longevity, trophies, decisive moments, and cultural impact provide a fuller measure of what each brought to English football. While these three legends have left their mark on the Premier League, today’s predictions leave room for new stars to emerge and create their own legacy in African football.

Salah: Greatness on Repeat

Mohamed Salah’s strongest argument is how often he delivered. Across nine Liverpool seasons, he combined explosive scoring with growing creativity. His 29 goals and 18 assists in 2024/25 helped secure his second Premier League title and fourth Golden Boot. That is an extraordinary peak within a sustained body of work.

His 2021 hat-trick at Old Trafford supplies the iconic league moment. His status as the “Egyptian King” also connects Egyptian pride with a global football audience. For consistency and attacking output, Salah sets the standard.

Drogba: The Man for the Moment

At his peak, Didier Drogba made defenders wrestle for every possession, then punished them with power, movement, and technique. His 29 league goals in 2009/10 show his scoring ceiling. Across two Chelsea spells, he collected two Golden Boots and four Premier League titles, the strongest league medal collection of this trio.

Drogba’s equaliser and winning shootout penalty in the 2012 Champions League final remain the defining evidence of his nerve. European finals strengthen his Chelsea legend, although a Premier League verdict must give league performance greater weight.

His influence also reached beyond football through years as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador.

Touré: The Power to Run Everything

Yaya Touré could dictate possession, carry the ball through midfield, and finish attacks himself. His 20 league goals in 2013/14 helped drive Manchester City to the title: a remarkable scoring peak for a central midfielder. His two goals at Newcastle in May 2012 were another crucial intervention during a championship run.

Touré won three Premier League titles. His blend of technique, intelligence, and power offered a model of African midfield excellence. Salah sustained his dominance for longer, but Touré’s influence across the pitch gives him a distinct claim.

What Is Your Choice?

Salah wins for numbers and longevity, Drogba for decisive greatness, and Touré for all-round influence. Weight sustained Premier League performance most heavily and Salah gets the vote. Weight the biggest occasions or the ability to shape every phase of play, and the argument changes. Salah’s repeated excellence gives him the strongest overall case.
