The first quarter of the year has been met with a plethora of music releases by African artists- at home and in the diaspora.  

The Thirteenth week of the new year is no different, as the week has seen a variety of new and exciting releases. 

 Here are ten of the best new songs in Africa at the moment.

Davido – Timeless (Album)

After a long hiatus from music, Nigerian superstar, and label boss, Davido makes an exciting return with the release of his fourth studio project, ‘Timeless’. The seventeen-track project features some of the hottest music acts in the game, from Asake to Fave to The Cavemen. The album also marks the introduction ofLogos Olori and Morravey, artists under Davido’s rebranded record label imprint, DMW 2.0. The response ‘Timeless’ has received thus far from music lovers is amazing.

Stonebwoy – Far Away

Stonebwoy is teasing the sonic palette of his fans with his latest single, ‘Far Away’. Recently, the Ghanaian artist shared a visual snippet announcing a forthcoming project. ‘Far Away’ is just the right follow-up to the announcement. The Afro-dancehall song is a feel-good record.

Lloyiso – Seasons (Album)

South Africa-bred talent, Lloyiso, releases his latest album titled, ‘Seasons’. The rhythm and blues singer is one of the most refreshing sounds to come out of South Africa, and his latest body of work proves this much. The album features singles such as ‘Give a Little Kindness’ and the hit single, ‘Let Me Love You Now’. It was released under license to Universal Music (South Africa division).

Juma Mufasa – Maame Water

Fast-rising Ghanaian contemporary hip-hop artist Juma Mufasa flows over soft piano key progressions and simple beat meters on his latest joint, ‘Maame Water.’

Bloody Civilian – I Don’t Like You

Nigerian alternative singer, Emosah Angela Khamofu, otherwise known as Bloody Civilian is one of the female artists of the new generation that is striving to push the boundaries sonic-wise. The Abuja-raised singer/songwriter is audacious, and her self-produced, newly released single, ‘I Don’t Like You‘ showcases the artiste’s brilliance.

Iyanii – Cheat On Me

Ian Oure, popularly known as Iyanii, is a talented Kenyan artist. His latest single, ‘Cheat On Me,’ is a Casanova’s dream. The singer belts proudly about his carefree, and approach to relationships.

Massar Egbari, Boustan Magdy – Kelma (Intro of El harsha El sabaa series)

Legendary Egyptian Band, Massar Egbari recently dropped their new song titled ‘Kelma.’ The song features female Egyptian singer/entrepreneur, Boustan Magdy. ‘Kelma’ is a soundtrack off the ongoing Egyptian series, ‘El Harsha, ElSana’a.

Falz – Yakubu(Feat Vector)

Popular rapper, and singer-songwriter, Falz has been making the news of late, especially as regards his acts of political activism online. The singer further uses his music as a tool to speak about the recent happenings in Nigeria, with emphasis on the just concluded elections in the country. ‘Yakubu’ is a satirical piece in which the rapper teams up with fellow rapper Vector to give a valiant delivery.

Shatta Wale – Maali (Album)

The self-proclaimed King of Ghanaian Dancehall, Shatta Wale, is back again with new music. To the delight of his avid supporters, the singer drops a full-length album titled ‘Maali.’ The 10-track project is all Shatta Wale has he enlists the help of no one other than himself.

Uncle Waffles – Asylum (Album)

Following an amazing year in 2022, popular South African Amapiano disk jockey Uncle Waffles drops a brand new project titled, ‘Asylum. The seven-track album is Uncle Waffles’ debut full-length project. Her recent effort was 2022’s ‘Red Dragon.’
