Tems Wins Her First Grammy Award

Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, a Nigerian female singer, becomes the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy award. At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, the Nigerian vocalist won her first Grammy for her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U,’ which also features Drake.

In the category of Best Melodic Rap Performance, the musical sensation beat out performers such as Latto (‘Big Energy (Live)’), Jack Harlow (‘First Class’), Kendrick Lamar (‘Die Hard‘), and DJ Khaled (‘Beautiful’). With this win, the 27-year-old fan favorite has become the first female Nigerian artist to win a Grammy.

Tems’ music has had a significant impact in recent years, and she is also up for Album of the Year for her contribution to Beyoncé’sRenaissance.’ The ‘Higher’ singer was nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing ‘Lift Me Up,’ one of the songs on ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ earlier this year.

The song ‘Higher,’ from Tems’ debut album ‘For Broken Ears,’ was sampled in the song ‘Wait For U.’ Future’s ninth studio album, ‘I Never Liked You,’ featured the second single, ‘Wait For U,’ which was released on May 3, 2022.

Soon after the album’s release, Future praised Tems’ vocal prowess on social media. Tems would receive praise and recognition for her artistic ability from all over the world for the rest of 2022, and she would work on a variety of projects, including major collaborations with megastars like Beyoncé and Rihanna.
