Ghana To Become Africa’s First Blockchain-Powered Government

The Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, announced Ghana’s ambitious plans to be the first country in Africa to launch a blockchain-powered government. Speaking at a conference in Accra, Bawumia emphasised the country’s strong push to digitise governmental services which have projected Ghana ahead of the other countries in Africa.

The digital revolution in Ghana starts with the government of Ghana. the digital government platform, which is the seamless integration of almost all government institutions to facilitate access to online services and electronic payments. The fabulous GHC 201 billion obtained through digital transactions was as a result, which represented financial transparency and efficiency gains compared to the era of absent deals and opaque transactions.

Nonetheless, the real paradigm shift happens when Ghana runs on blockchain technology which will provide the highest level of security and immutability for government data. Through the ability of blockchain to make records cryptographically protected, Ghana is on a quest to fight fraud by recording and maintaining every transaction that has been made in digital format, capturing the evil acts that were leading to corruption.

In contrast to the usual bland speech political speaker, the Vice President’s speech was an African celebration and a call for all Africans. With the estimate of global corruption during the past decade of more than one trillion US dollars being taken from the continent’s finances, Bawumia stressed the importance of joint efforts in fighting the problem. Ghana is, for Africa, this lighthouse representing the tackling of corruption in conjunction with introducing and making fruitful new technologies, guaranteeing success and growth.
