Flutterwave’s CEO Agboola Joins Wall Street Journal CEO council

Olugbenga Agboola, the CEO of Flutterwave, a prominent payments technology company in Africa, has recently joined the esteemed Wall Street Journal (WSJ) CEO Council. This significant achievement places him among a distinguished group of CEOs who are making waves in the finance world across various sectors.

The WSJ CEO Council consists of 350 CEOs hailing from diverse industries, and its global presence is formidable, encompassing a collective workforce of over 11 million employees and generating approximately $4.48 trillion in annual revenue. Serving as an influential platform, it facilitates discussions on growth and fosters the exchange of ideas among leaders from the world’s most renowned companies.

GB, as Olugbenga Agboola is fondly known, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role at Flutterwave, with an academic background spanning institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Wharton School of Management, and the University of Westminster. His inclusion in the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council solidifies his status as a global thought leader in the field of fintech.

GB’s achievements extend beyond his WSJ recognition. In 2020, he was honored as the Young Business Leader of The Year by the African Leadership Magazine. His influence in the tech industry has been acknowledged by Fortune Magazine, placing him on their prestigious 40 under 40 list, as well as Time Magazine, which included him in their esteemed 2021 Next 100 list. Furthermore, in October 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria awarded GB the National Honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

Under GB’s visionary leadership, Flutterwave has revolutionized transactional experiences across the African continent with its innovative payment infrastructure. This accomplishment was further solidified when the company achieved unicorn status, reaching a valuation of one billion dollars after successfully raising a $170 million Series C round in 2021.

In his new role within the WSJ CEO Council, GB will have a unique platform to share his perspectives and engage in discussions about emerging economies, payments, and global fintech with some of the world’s most influential CEOs.

“As Flutterwave continues to innovate and provide payments infrastructure in Africa and beyond, it is an honour to join the ranks of WSJ’s esteemed CEO Council, an important platform for thought leadership and the exchange of ideas,” said Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola. “Flutterwave’s work is an example of the transformative power of financial technology, and I look forward to bringing my perspective as the company’s CEO to the Council.”

Other members of the Council include Ebenezer Onyeagwu, group managing director and CEO, Zenith Bank; Allan Thygesen, CEO, Docusign; Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft; Börje Ekholm, president and CEO at Ericsson; Todd Boehly, chairman and CEO at Eldridge; and Arvind Krishna, CEO at IBM.
