First Look At Rixel Studios’ Crime Thriller ‘Red Circle’

Set in modern-day Lagos, ‘Red Circle’ emerges at a time when global audiences are increasingly turning their attention to the vibrant world of the Nigerian film industry. Under the direction of award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Akay Mason.

In an exclusive interview, Director of Photography Nora Awolowo takes us behind the scenes of the upcoming crime thriller. Nora, the youngest Nigerian female cinematographer, is renowned for her award-winning cinematography for Action Aid, which won a Smiley Charity Award in London.

“From the start, we wanted to create a deliberate film regarding style, performance, and overall production design. Our choices regarding talent, design, costuming, and location were guided by a commitment to authenticity. I do not doubt that viewers worldwide will be wholly immersed in this world we’re creating. As African stories increasingly capture the global spotlight, particularly with the recent success of films like ‘Black Panther’, we’re ready to contribute to this cultural moment with our unique narrative.”

Nigerian actress Ada Ogunkeye, also known as Folu Storms, is taking the leading lady seat in the recently announced crime thriller Red Circle.

Storms recently featured in the Showmax Original ‘Crime and Justice: Lagos’ and, most recently, MTV’s ‘In Bloom.’
“I’ve never had to play a character quite like Fikayo Holloway, which is interesting because I find her relatable, and I think many people will. It’s the trappings of wealth without opulence, a hard worker with a determination to break away from the family mould even when it costs you your privilege.”

According to writer and producer Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, the biggest challenge in assembling such an ensemble cast was making their schedule work. “We had to make it work because we were clear on who exactly we wanted to work with, and we were not ready to compromise.”

‘Red Circle’ is a refreshing crime thriller set against the backdrop of showbiz in Lagos and all the dried-up skeletons in its cupboard.

The film follows Fikayo Holloway, played by Folu, as she leads this powerhouse cast, which also features Tobi Bakre, Timini Egbuson, Bukky Wright, Ruggedman, Lateef Adedimeji, Chief Femi Branch, Omowunmi Dada, Mike Afolarin, Debo Macaroni, Ibrahim Suleiman, and many more.

‘Red Circle’ is written by AMVCA nominee Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and produced by the duo Nora Awolowo and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed.
