According to police sources in Durban, South Africa, the 35-year-old rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting while waiting outside a restaurant on Friday night.

According to social media users, the rapper traveled to Durban to celebrate his birthday by performing at a nightclub. Members of his team photographed and posted the shooting outside Wish Restaurant, a popular Durban hangout. According to an ALS spokesperson and paramedic, Garrith Jamieson, Parademics responded to a shooting around 10:15 p.m.

On arrival, paramedics met total chaos and a scene where two men, believed to be in their late 30s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics assisted the men and unfortunately, the first male had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.

Kiernan Jarryd Forbes who is best known as AKA burst onto the South African hip-hop scene in 2009, with his debut single “Victory Lap” catapulting him to stardom. After three hit albums, the singer of ‘Lemons (Lemonade)’ was preparing to make a comeback and release his debut album in five years. As he continued to tease the public about the new songs he was excited to share, the singer most recently released “Prada,” which featured fellow South African rapper Khuli Chana. In his most recent Instagram post, he poses in front of a bright light and includes several photos of himself and his colleagues in the studio.

Kairo, the late rapper’s daughter with South African musician DJ Zinhle, is left behind. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Forbes family.
