Ada Omo Daddy Movie Review: A Tale Of Secrets, Betrayal And Redemption

Nollywood continues to deliver compelling stories, and Ada Omo Daddy is no exception. Produced by Mercy Aigbe in 2023 and now streaming on Netflix, the film unravels a tale of a young woman who stumbles upon a shocking truth—her paternity has been a lie, and the real Omo Daddy is actually Ada by birth. With a stellar cast, lavish settings, and a blend of drama and suspense, Ada Omo Daddy offers a storyline that keeps viewers engaged.

Plot

It all started with what looked like a gang fight—chaos, shouting, a mother desperately running from the scene until a gunshot rang out, cutting through the night.

Fast forward, and the world couldn’t seem more different. Pero Balogun, the first daughter of the influential Banks family, had just been named Managing Director of the Logun Group, a position once held by her father. Pero, fondly called Omo Daddy—Daddy’s Girl—had never known a life where she didn’t get exactly what she wanted. And that day was no different. She strolled, unaware, toward a surprise engagement as Victor, the man she loved, got down on one knee to propose. Life was perfect. Or so she thought.

Then came the call.  Pero’s mother, Ireti, answered it, her face draining of color. On the other end was Ifeanyi. His voice alone was enough to send her into a fit of rage, threatening and cursing him. But Ifeanyi was relentless. Moments later, Pero’s phone rang and Ifeanyi introduced himself as her father and Ada was her real name. She dismissed him outright thinking he was a fraudster. Still, something about the call gnawed at her. When she confronted her mother and aunt, they denied knowing him and also asserted that he was a fraudster.  Soon after, Ireti and her sister, Motun, stormed Ifeanyi’s house, demanding he stay out of Pero’s life. Ifeanyi, however, was done being ignored. He wanted his daughter back, no matter what it took. And he had proof.

But the truth doesn’t stay buried forever. That same evening, a package arrived at Pero’s doorstep. Inside were photographs—her as a baby, cradled in Ifeanyi’s arms, her mother right beside them. The second she confronted Ireti again, the truth unraveled. Ifeanyi was indeed her father. He and Ireti met during their Youth Service and fell in love. However, when Ireti became pregnant, she pressured him into marriage. Despite this, Ifeanyi’s promiscuous lifestyle persisted, ultimately leading to the collapse of their marriage.

Pero reeled from the revelation. Mr. Banks, the man she had always called Dad, had known all along. The weight of the lie was suffocating, but curiosity won over anger. She reached out to Ifeanyi, and one meeting became another.

As her wedding day approached, Ifeanyi insisted on being a part of it. He wanted his family represented, and Pero, torn between the past and the present, didn’t stop him. But secrets have a way of exploding.  Ireti soon discovered that Pero had been secretly visiting Ifeanyi, and the confrontation was inevitable. Mother and daughter clashed in a heated argument that ended with Pero storming out of the house and unreachable.

Now, standing at the crossroads of her life, Pero had to make an impossible decision—who was truly her family, and which past would define her future.

Cast

Ada Omo Daddy boasts a stellar cast, including Sola Sobowale, Omowunmi Dada, Dele Odule, Mercy Aigbe, Tayo Faniran, Charles Okafor, Carol King, Chinwetalu Agu, Phyna and many others. Each actor delivers commendable performances, breathing life into their characters. While some roles, such as Pero’s in-laws, felt unnecessary to the central plot, their inclusion maintained consistency. Chinwetalu Agu’s presence, known for his iconic mystical roles, had audiences anticipating something more intense, but his character’s schemes never escalated beyond “Plans A-Z”. Nevertheless, it was commendable how she incorporated veteran actors who are rarely seen on screen Overall, the cast was perfectly suited for the movie’s plot.

Language

The movie was performed in English, Yoruba and Igbo.

Summary

Ada Omo Daddy was an engaging watch, thanks to its strong cast, consistent storyline, and visually appealing settings and costumes. However, the sound production was lacking, as the background music often overpowered the actors’ voices. The wedding reception scene felt unnecessary, seemingly included more for publicity than for narrative depth. Overall, while the movie was enjoyable, its plot was fairly predictable—one we’ve seen many times before, only this time set against a backdrop of luxury.
